Fallen Soldiers from Creve Coeur to be Honored at Dedication Ceremony

Several veterans groups in Tazewell County will be taking advantage of Armed Forces Day to dedicate the addition of eight names to the veterans memorial on the west lawn of the Tazewell County Courthouse in Pekin this Saturday (May 18th)  at 10:30 a.m.

Added to the memorial wall are the names of 20-year-old Army Spc. Kristofer C. Walker of Creve Coeur and 20-year-old Army Spc. George R. Obourn of Creve Coeur, both of whom died in Iraq in October, 2006. Army Spc. Ronald W. Gebur, a 23-year-old Delavan resident who died in Iraq in May of that year, has been added, too. So have the names of Marine Lance Corporals Jordan Bastean, 19, of Pekin, who died in Afghanistan in 2011; and 21-year-old Robert J. Newton of Creve Coeur, who died in Afghanistan in August of 2010. Army Staff Sgt. Paul G. Smith, 43, of East Peoria, who died in Afghanistan in 2009; and the most recent casualty, Army Sgt. Dean R. Shaffer, 23, of Pekin, who died in Afghanistan in 2012, have also been added to the wall.
