Christmas Concert Scheduled at Sacre Coeur Church Dec. 16th

A Christmas concert has been scheduled at Sacre Coeur Church here on Dec. 16 to help support more than 50 area young people and adults planning to attend World Youth Day 2013 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, next July.

Many of the youth hoping to travel to see Pope Benedict XVI in Brazil will be among the vocalists and musicians at the 5 p.m. concert, which is free and open to the public, according to Father Paolo Tanzini, pastor. Both traditional and modern Christmas music will be featured, accompanied by instruments including organ, piano, brass, strings, electric guitar and saxophone.

Since Father Tanzini’s arrival last June, Sacre Coeur Parish has become the home for area Catholic families involved in the Neocatechumenal Way, a community focusing on adult faith formation. Communities formerly based at St. Philomena’s Parish and St. Mary’s Cathedral in Peoria are now connected to Sacre Coeur.

Most of the young people planning to attend World Youth Day are from families in the Neocatechumenal Way.

World Youth Day is a youth-oriented, global celebration of the Catholic faith begun by Pope John Paul II in 1985. It is held internationally every two or three years.

During the concert at Sacre Coeur, some children too young to attend World Youth Day will be featured in a re-enactment of the story of Jesus’ birth. Funds will be raised through a silent auction and bake sale held in conjunction with the concert, as well as an invitation for support.

Among the featured soloists will be Father Tanzini. While he said the title of his selection will be a surprise, he added “it might have some Italian touch.”

For more information on the concert or World Youth Day plans, call the parish at (309) 699-8511. (source)
